A BRIEF HISTORY OF DR. MU VA

Dr. M. Varadarasanar (MU Va) had made a tremendous contribution towards Tamil Literature during 20 th century.

He was born in 24/04/1912 at Thirupattur, North Arcot District, Tamil Nadu. He did his schooling at Thirupattur high school and became a pandit in 1935. He was the first person to do doctorate in Tamil Literature at Madras University in 1948. He was the first Tamil Scholar to get a D.Lit., in the American University in 1972.

He served as a Tamil Teacher in 1939 and became a lecturer in Pachiapas College Chennai. Then he became the HOD of Tamil Department at Madras University in 1961. Finally he was the Vice Chancellor of Madurai University.

He was simple in appearance and rich in Knowledge and travelled world wide.

He contributed :

13 Novels; 2 Short stories; 3 Fictional stories; 6 Plays; 11 Essays; 24 Literature books; 4 Children books; 4 Letters; 9 travelogue; 1 History on Tamil Literature; 6 Books on Tamil scripts; 4 Biographs; 2 English books on Tamil Literature; 3 Tamil grammar for Students; 2 English Translations.

He expired on 10/10/1974. He was awarded Sakathiami award for his novel "Agal Villuku".
